Five Amazing Gardens to Visit This Spring

15 April 2016

Spring has arrived and flowers are in bloom! For those of you who want to experience the colorful blossoms in all their splendor, a trip to a botanical garden is a must. We’ve found five amazing gardens across the United States that are a must for any nature lover or aspiring botanist:

Chicago Botanic Garden

One of the largest botanical gardens in the United States, the Chicago Botanic Garden sits on 385 acres in the northern part of the city. With its 26 individual gardens and four natural areas, you should plan to spend at least a few hours exploring the garden. Don’t miss the Bonsai Collection, which includes several plants donated by internationally renowned bonsai master Susumu Nakamura, or the Butterflies and Blooms exhibition, which runs from May through August. Families will also enjoy the many family friendly events and activities, including exploring the gardens with special discovery backpacks that are provided by the garden. After a long day of exploring, rest your feet at one of our many Chicago-area hotels.

Atlanta Botanical Garden

Located just a mile from downtown Atlanta in Midtown, the Atlanta Botanical Garden is a must-see attraction for any visitor to Georgia’s capital city. Spring is the perfect time to visit, with several spring-themed events, including Orchid Daze and Atlanta Blooms!, running throughout the season. Be sure to spend some time high in the sky on the Canopy Walk, the garden’s 600-foot skywalk that’s raised 40 feet in the air over the Storza Woods. The 30-acre garden is also located adjacent to Piedmont Park, so plan to spend a whole afternoon visiting both the park and garden. End your exciting day in Atlanta with a delicious cookie and a peaceful sleep at one of our many Country Inns & Suites hotels in the Atlanta area.

Desert Botanical Garden

If you’re in Phoenix, Arizona, you can’t pass up a visit to the Desert Botanical Garden. As you walk among the 140 acres of outdoor exhibits, you’ll be in awe of the more than 50,000 beautiful plant displays. In addition to the thousands of blooming flowers, visitors can also enjoy several exhibits and activities, including the Music in the Garden spring concert series. Start and end your days in Phoenix at one of our four area hotels.

Missouri Botanical Garden

Vacationing in St Louis? Why not stay at one of our St. Louis hotels this spring? Plan to spend a few hours of your trip at the Missouri Botanical Garden; you won’t be disappointed! Founded in 1859, it is the oldest continually operated botanical garden in the United States. It’s also listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark. Visitors can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city while exploring 79 acres of beautiful flowers and plants, including the 14-acre Japanese strolling garden. If you have a little more time to enjoy the garden, check out their many programs and events for families and kids of all ages.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Located in east Dallas on the shore of White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is the perfect outdoor escape from the fast-paced city. Children and adults alike will enjoy exploring the 19 named gardens and several additional featured areas that are spread across the garden’s 66 acres, including the kid-friendly Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden and the classically-designed Rose Mary Haggar Rose Garden. Spring visitors won’t want to miss the 30th annual Dallas Blooms festival, featuring more than 500,000 flowers of every color. If you’re looking for a relaxing place to catch some tunes, check out the Cool Thursdays Concert Series, which starts in April and offers music from national cover bands, Dallas food trucks, and more, all on the lake shore. Book your stay at one of our Dallas hotels to get the most out of your Texas vacation.

No matter where you choose to view the flowers this spring, we can guarantee that you’ll see some beautiful blooms. Be sure to take some pictures to share with family and friends back home!
