Many state fairs across the country have come and gone, but the weather is still perfect for fairs in the South. State fairs are an anticipated annual event that bring people together to celebrate local culture, tradition and community. Attending just one fair a year doesn’t seem like enough, so why not explore another festival out of state? Here are four state fairs you haven’t missed—and really shouldn’t miss!
1. Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock | October 9th – 18th
Billed as “The Biggest Celebration,” this year’s Arkansas State Fair will feature over 55 rides, a high-dive show, pageants, and even a 2-day stop by the Professional Bull Riding tour. Fill up on classic fair foods, and enjoy a free nightly concert from musicians you know and love. All the fun of the Arkansas State Fair is just a short drive from the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Conway, AR location.
2. North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh | October 15th – 25th
Always a source of new food creations, the North Carolina State Fair will undoubtedly keep that tradition alive this year. While the new creations are yet to be announced, after serving up deep fried Kool Aid and fried bubble gum, anything seems possible. There’s more than just food at the North Carolina State Fair, too. The midway has rides and games galore, there are plenty of livestock and local arts and crafts on display, and every night ends with a fireworks show. All the fun is just a hop, skip, and jump away from your room at the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Raleigh-Durham Airport, NC location.
3. Arizona State Fair in Phoenix | October 16th – November 8th
Starting in 1884 with the Arizona Territorial Fair, the Southwest has enjoyed celebrations of local culture and innovations for over 130 years. This year, the Arizona State Fair will showcase the world’s first comprehensive exhibition exploring UFOs and extraterrestrial encounters. In addition, there are nearly 70 rides to delight, or thrill, fairgoers of all ages. Make sure to enjoy it all from the convenience of one of our Phoenix-area hotels.
4. Alabama National Fair in Montgomery | October 30th – November 8th
The Alabama National Fair features a bit of a twist on many state fairs. Instead of rows filled with the glow of games, this fair’s main attractions are the livestock and animal shows, including dog Frisbee and dock-diving exhibitions! There will also be great musical performances to enjoy, and of course, a giant pumpkin contest. Book your stay at one of our Montgomery-area hotels.
Your hometown fair will always have a special place in your heart, but visiting an out-of-state fair can be an ideal fall vacation. You can enjoy great fair traditions, but with different style and flare. Expand your state fair experience and plan your next trip today!
