The city of endless adventure: Portland, Oregon

5 June 2017

Foodies, coffee connoisseurs, music lovers, nature fans, thrill seekers: Welcome to Portland, Oregon!

Whether you’re here for business or pleasure, this city has something for every type of traveler. If you’re a city goer, enjoy a leisurely walk or bike ride around Downtown Portland and discover unique dining and shopping experiences, museums and parks. All that walking is sure to work up an appetite. For fresh food finds, try the local farmers markets, or one of the many farm-to-table restaurants or food carts. If you consider yourself a true coffee expert (or even an amateur), check out the city’s bean scene with a coffee crawl. And don’t worry music lovers — Portland’s got you covered. Plan your stay around one of the music festivals or check out the local music venues.

If you want to escape city life, you don’t have to go very far. Less than three miles from Downtown is one of the state’s oldest parks, Washington Park. Filled with gardens, museums, a zoo and a forest, this park is an urban paradise and a must-see. Stroll through the colorful International Rose Test Garden containing more than 7,000 rose plants and 550 varieties, and relax in the serenity of the traditional Japanese garden. Adventurous visitors can explore over 15 miles of trails on the more than 410-acre property. Kids and adults alike love the Oregon Zoo, which is home to nearly 2,000 animals representing more than 200 species from around the world.

Looking for something a bit more thrilling? Make a pit stop at the international raceway, which hosts a variety of events, including car shows, drag racing, sports cars and motorcycle road racing, motocross, and more. Or for something a little more family friendly, head to the amusement park, a local favorite. Step back in time and enjoy some good old-fashioned fun on classic park rides such as the carrousel, bumper cars, and Ferris wheel. You can also try your luck with carnival games, test your mini golf skills, and skate around the roller rink. Make a whole day of it by packing a picnic and heading to nearby Sellwood Park.
