Did you know that today is Earth Day? Each year on April 22, events are held in communities worldwide to support the environment and its protection. There are currently 192 countries that celebrate Earth Day, and the number keeps growing!

Country Inns & Suites By Carlson supports environmental initiatives not only on Earth Day, but all year through our partnership with Clean the World. As part of our commitment to Responsible Business, participating Country Inns & Suites hotels collect guests’ partially used bath amenities to be sanitized and sent to those in need.

Why recycle and redistribute soap and other bottled hotel amenities? More than 3.5 million children die each year from water-related diseases – up to 60 percent of which could have been prevented by the regular use of soap. With 1 million bars of soap being thrown away daily by the global hospitality industry, we knew there was something we could do to help.

Each day, housekeepers at participating hotels collect leftover bars of soap, along with bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. They are then sent to one of Clean the World’s recycling centers, where the products are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before being shipped to communities in need around the world.

To date, Country Inns & Suites hotels have collected over thirteen thousand pounds of soap and over ten thousand pounds of bottled amenities for Clean the World, and more is being collected every day!
