Experiencing the local culture is one of the best things about traveling, and Marquette won’t disappoint. If you are in the area for a ski vacation, you should definitely take the time to visit the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame just outside of town. History buffs will love the Marquette Regional History Center and the Marquette Maritime Museum for their interesting artifacts and interactive exhibits. If you’re traveling with the kids, make sure to visit the U.P. Children’s Museum for education, fun, and entertainment that the whole family will enjoy.
Perhaps the best way to see Marquette is from the top of Hogback Mountain. In addition to hiking, you can also hunt or ski in this natural paradise. Bring home postcard-perfect photos from your trip by visiting the area’s lighthouses. The Presque Isle Harbor Lighthouse is located at the end of Presque Isle Park and is still used to guide ships into the railroad ore docks.
After all of this activity, you’re going to be hungry. There are many dining choices in Marquette. Enjoy fine dining at Das Steinhaus or an old-fashioned luncheon at Donckers Candy, Old-Time Soda Fountain and Luncheonette. After dinner, you can sip on a cold craft beer at one of the area’s many breweries. You know to save the best for last, so leave some room for dessert at Baby Cakes.
Your next small town adventure awaits you in northern Michigan. Between the attractions, outdoor activities, and nightlife, each day will be jam-packed with big smiles and new memories. Start every morning with a delicious, hot breakfast and end every evening with a soothing soak in the whirlpool when you stay at the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Marquette, which has received the Country Inns & Suites By Carlson President’s Award and Hotel of the Year award.
