Need to get away to a sunny and warm destination? How about a road trip through the Arizona sunshine? Our Southwest Spotlight itinerary will take you through three of Arizona’s most exciting cities, Mesa, Phoenix, and Tucson, and will introduce you to exciting and educational activities and attractions at each destination.

Mesa, Arizona

Start your Southwest Spotlight road trip in beautiful Mesa, Arizona. Grab a freshly baked cookie from the front desk as you check in to the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Mesa hotel and take a relaxing dip in the pool before you head out to explore the city. Experience the amazing views of the Apache Trail and Tonto National Forest from Canyon Lake as you cruise along the water in The Dolly Steamboat, or do your own exploring in Pinnacle Peak Park.

Pinnacle Peak Park

Your kids will have a blast at the Arizona Museum for Youth, which features several unique exhibits. If you’re visiting during Spring Training, you can’t miss a Cactus League ballgame! Almost half of Major League Baseball’s teams play within a short drive of Mesa during this time of the year, so you there’s a good chance you can catch one of your favorite team’s games at a fraction of the cost of a regular season game.

Phoenix, Arizona

Ready for more excitement? Head to Phoenix! Take your family to the Desert Botanical Garden to enjoy the more than 130 plant species, or let them experience life in the Old West at the Rawhide Wild West Town. Love art? Stop by the popular Mesa Arts Center, the largest of its kind, to browse over 200,000 square feet of contemporary art. Adventurous visitors can even see Phoenix from the air with Hot Air Expeditions.

After a full day, rest your head at one of our three area Country Inns & Suites locations – Deer Valley, Phoenix Airport at Tempe, and Scottsdale.

Tucson, Arizona

When you’re ready to leave Phoenix, hop in the car for the short two-hour drive southeast to Tucson, Arizona. This desert city offers plenty of fun for any travel party, whether you’re traveling with family, friends, or solo! Don’t forget to book a Local Attraction Package at our Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, Tucson City Center hotel before you start your trip! Once you arrive and check in, you’ll receive a $25 Visa gift card to use at any Tucson attraction of your choice!

Saguaro National Park

Start your Tucson adventure with a hike through Saguaro National Park, which is home to North America’s largest cactus, the Saguaro, and several other species of plant life. If you’re craving more outdoor activities, head to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. With a zoo, museum, and botanical garden spread across 21 acres, this popular Tucson attraction is much more than just a museum.
