Escape reality for a few days – or weeks – when you take a road trip through sunny Florida! With beaches, museums, great food, and ocean adventures, the Song of the South itinerary is sure to keep your travel party entertained throughout your trip.

Jacksonville, Florida

Start your Florida road trip in the northeastern tip of the state. Stop by one of our Country Inns & Suites hotels in Jacksonville or St. Augustine to drop off your bags, relax, or even to take a quick nap before you head out into the city to start exploring. Art lovers will enjoy the city’s many museums, including the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, the Alexander Brest Museum, and the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art.

For visitors who like to experience a city’s history, a Riverside walking tour is a must. The Riverside area includes several homes that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to this exciting walk through the past, you’ll find yourself among some of best shopping and restaurants in Jacksonville. After all of that walking, you’re sure to have worked up an appetite. Try lunch or dinner at Dwight’s or Biscottis, two of the city’s popular restaurants.

Cape Canaveral

After getting your fill of the attractions and activities in Jacksonville, hop in the car for the short drive down the Atlantic coastline to Cape Canaveral. Located in the heart of the Space Coast, this city is must-stop destination for any space and aircraft lover. Start your day at the Kennedy Space Center, which has been home to every NASA space flight since 1968. Visitors can fulfill their dreams of becoming an astronaut as they stand face-to-face with the Space Shuttle AtlantisSM, experience a simulated shuttle launch, meet a real astronaut, and explore the many exhibits. It’s a great destination if you have kids, or a kid-at-heart adult in your group.  If you’re looking for more space attractions, stop by the Air Force Space and Missile Museum to explore missiles, rockets, artifacts, and more.

While Cape Canaveral may be known for its connection to space and shuttle launches, it offers visitors much more. Enjoy a relaxing day at the Cape Canaveral National Seashore, take a chartered fishing boat out for a full or half day with Odyssey Charters,  and have dinner at Madd Jack’s Grillin Shack, one of the area’s best restaurants. After a full day of learning and exploring, get a much-needed rest at our Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Cape Canaveral hotel.
