With its exciting cities, rich history, and warm temperatures, Georgia is a perfect getaway – especially in the spring and fall seasons when the weather is perfect for outdoor entertainment. With this exciting road trip itinerary, you’ll be sure to have Georgia on your mind long after you’ve returned home!
What better place to start a Georgia road trip than in the state’s capital of Atlanta? The home of the world’s busiest airport and the 1996 Olympics, this city is brimming with attractions and activities that any visitor will enjoy. After a restful night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast at one of our Atlanta-area hotels, including our Buckhead, Atlanta Northwest, and Stone Mountain properties, you’ll be ready for a day of fun in the city. If the weather is nice, take a walk through Piedmont Park to enjoy the skyline view and read the plaques commemorating historical events, including Civil War battles. Just a few steps from the park, the Atlanta Botanical Garden offers 30 acres of cultivated gardens and woods, a conservatory, and an orchid center.
If shopping is your favorite vacation activity, you’ll love Vinings, an open-air shopping center built in the architectural style of the area’s historic homes, and Amsterdam Walk, a midtown shopping destination with a variety of eclectic shops. After a long day, you’ll want to grab a bite to eat. Get food with European flare at Ecco, or enjoy some delicious sushi at MF “Magic Fingers” Sushi Bar, which is named after its popular sushi chef.
Take the three hour drive from Atlanta to the charming historic city of Savannah. Stop by one of our area Country Inns & Suites hotels to check in and grab a freshly baked cookie, then put on your walking shoes to explore this beautiful southern city. A great first stop, the Historic District is a must-see for any visitor, and is best explored while riding in a horse-drawn carriage or on foot. Whether you choose a daytime tour or a romantic or ghostly evening tour, your guide will teach you about the city’s heritage and colorful past.
Spend an afternoon at the City Market, which originally opened in 1775. Today, the market offers art galleries, specialty shops, restaurants, live bands, and more. After exploring the market, take a stroll or relax in the 30-acre Forsyth Park. Its peaceful foundation and canopy of live oak trees will have you dreaming of days long past. When your stomach is rumbling for dinner, head to one of Savannah’s many great restaurants, such as Local 11 Ten, for some delicious southern eats.
From bustling city life to historic charm, your road trip through Georgia will leave you with happy memories of a great vacation. Print a copy of the Georgia on my Mind itinerary and get ready for a southern adventure!
