Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Panama Canal
Tuesday, August 12, 2014
This summer marks the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal! The oldest of the “Seven Modern Wonders of the World,” this 48-mile man-made canal changed the shipping industry on August 15,1914. It took 35 years to complete this architectural marvel that saves seagoing travelers about 8,000 miles of sailing time. This centennial structure will be honored and celebrated throughout the year, so it is a perfect time to plan a trip to one of our Panama hotels and add these exciting attractions to your itinerary.
Discover the history of the Panama Canal at the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center. You’ll learn about the past, present, and future of this waterway that unites the world by connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. From the observation deck, you can watch ships in transit and learn how the locks operate. You can also enjoy lunch or dinner from the Miraflores Restaurant, which is located on the second floor. Be sure to raise your glass in cheers to the 100 year old Panama Canal!
