Genevieve Gorder on Finding Your Design Inspiration

I think one of the most frequently asked questions I get as a designer is how do you find your inspiration? To which, I pause, and go into a long diatribe about childhood, imagination, wiring, blah blah blah, but in a nutshell, the shortest answer is simply that inspiration is everywhere and it’s looking long enough and creatively enough to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. From mundane objects, the sentimental, a movie, a bowl of soup …. there is no limit to where it can come from. But there is one experience that humbles, teaches and inspires me more than anything else in the world and that is travel.

Design and travel have one of the strongest marriages there is and the new Country Inns & Suite By CarlsonSM design is a perfect example of this fine combination.  A feeling of home is and has always been the inspiration for Country Inns & Suites’ look and service culture. This culture, coupled with a new design but retaining the warmth and approachability the brand is known for, modernizes and refreshes its image. Ace.

In celebration of Country Inns & Suites’ new design, I’m excited to announce the Pin It to Win It! Facebook sweepstakes. You can enter for a chance to win a two-night weekend getaway PLUS $3,000 for travel by showing us which Country Inns & Suites image gives you inspiration. I’m personally dying for the cement patterned bathroom tiles. You wouldn’t think these bold patterns would all work together, but through a careful eye an amazing effect has found itself in the bathroom design. I’m all for design surprise and delight.

Alright guys, let’s get this pinning party started! Show us what inspires you and hopefully win a wonderful weekend getaway! Good Luck!!!

Talk to you soon,

I am provided with compensation for my endorsement for the Country Inns & Suites redesign; however, these opinions are my own.
